Privacy
This statement explains how the Balkan Australian Education Alliance Incorporated (BAEA) handles personal information collected through this website. We follow the Australian Privacy Principles as best practice. Because scholarship applications are about children, we take particular care with them.
What we collect
- Scholarship applications: the student's name, date of birth, school, year level and home suburb; the parent or guardian's contact details; the written answers in the application, including information about the family's financial circumstances; and the documents you upload (such as an enrolment confirmation or school invoice).
- Shortlisted applicants only: evidence of the student's Australian citizenship or permanent residency, which we ask for separately and only if the application is shortlisted.
- Register interest: your name, email address and, if you choose, your child's year level, your suburb and how you heard about us.
Why we collect it
We use this information only to assess applications, run the scholarship program, pay schools, keep the records the law and our rules require, and contact you about your application or, if you registered interest, about future rounds. We do not sell or share it for marketing.
Who can see it
Applications can be seen only by members of the Fund Management Committee, who sign in to a private area of this website. A member who has a personal connection to an applicant declares it and cannot see that application. We share information with a school only as needed to confirm enrolment and arrange payment for a successful applicant.
How we store it
Applications and documents are stored in a secure database and private file storage hosted in Sydney, Australia. Documents can only be opened through short-lived secure links by signed-in committee members. Our website host and our email delivery provider may process limited information, such as your email address, on servers outside Australia in order to deliver the website and send emails.
How long we keep it
We keep application records and decisions for five years after the round, as required by our program rules, and then delete them. Register-interest details are kept until you ask us to remove them, or for two years, whichever comes first.
Your choices
You can ask to see or correct the information we hold about you or your child, withdraw an application, or be removed from our interest list, by emailing balkaneducationalliance@gmail.com. If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, please contact us first. You can also contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner.
